In June, 2007, once again, students from St. Maria Goretti High School participated in a Catholic Heart Work Camp week. This year, eleven students, along with 3 faculty members traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the week-long camp. Atlanta is just one of the 30 CHWC camp sites throughout the United States. Our home base was Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School in Fairburn, Georgia, where we shared sleeping quarters (classrooms) with students from across the country. Our day began and ended with prayer and reflection. In between, small groups of campers traveled to various sites where their responsibilities included cleaning, painting, building, gardening, babysitting, and visiting the elderly. Our free day was spent at Six Flags over Georgia in Atlanta. The week was an adventure for all.
Andrew Johnson: "I thought the Mission Trip was a good experience because we made a positive impact on peoples' lives. It was also nice to make new friends."
Catherine Barton: "I had heard things from Clara Spicer and my sister, Stephanie. I had high expectations and all were fulfilled - to the fullest!"
John Connor: "I felt I became more in tune with my spiritual life and became closer to God."
Andrew Hilmoe: "I thought the Mission Trip was a wonderful experience because it gave me a chance to open up while still helping others in need."
Sandra Maina: "I thought it was going to be "hard core" missionary work for a week. Although we did work, it still ended up being fun and spiritually enriching."
Patrick Keenan: "I enjoyed the experience and would love to do it again. I felt I have definitely grown from the trip. I learned many things, and also, learned a bit about myself."
