The French National Honor Society is a national organization that recognizes the achievements of students studying the French language and tries to place them within reach of a more interactive type of learning through field trips, literature, and study abroad.
The French Honor Society is sponsored by St. Maria Goretti High School and the American Association of Teachers of French. The Society promotes the French language and the Francophone culture through activities such as the FHS Induction and National French Week (la Semaine Nationale du Francais), which takes place in November. FHS members also work closely with the International Club.
Besides the benefit of membership, the student is also included as part of the International Club and can run for office in both organizations. Also, the student takes on the responsibility of a tutor, which by doing so is rewarded with community service time.
Membership for the French Honor Society is open to current French III, IV, and V students in "good standing" (B average or better in French & for GPA overall).Once inducted, it is the responsibility of the student to maintain an A average through the year. Graduating students who are currently in the French Honor Society and are enrolled in and successfully complete a French class their graduating year will have the honor noted on the Graduation program and may purchase blue-white-and-red Honor cords to wear at the Graduation ceremony. Members receive certificates and pins at year's end.
